Correct installation of the lock in the interior door
Interior doors are the most significant element of the design of almost every residential, office or any other room. There are, of course, rooms between which doors are not installed, but these are individual cases, and they have nothing to do with the topic of installing a lock. Very often there are such conditions when the lock needs to be inserted not only in the entrance door, but also in the interior. We will not go into the details of why this is necessary, the purpose of this article is to consider the technology of performing one of the main processes that accompanies the installation of the lock in the interior door with your own hands – this is the insertion of the lock and bringing it into working condition.
To date, the furniture industry is very well developed, and accordingly, it offers interior doors made of a variety of materials. It is certainly a good thing that there is such a large selection, made of wood, not only remain popular, but also constantly displace all their newfound competitors. But why is the tree so popular? Mostly due to the fact that wood is a natural, and therefore environmentally friendly, safe for health material. Well, and other advantages of wooden doors, of course, are enough in excess.
Each interior door has a basic element – a door leaf. In addition to it, there are also secondary parts – these are hinges and a handle with a lock. After the door is attached to the secondary parts, and these are handles, hinges and lock, it can be installed. On an already installed interior door, additional parts will be more difficult to install.
Correct installation of the door lock in the door. Preparatory stage
Before you start installing the door lock in the door, you need to know that the lock is embedded in the end surface, the middle part of it. This requires the following tools: a hand milling machine and a drill. Then you need to properly lay the door. That is, it is arranged in such a way that you have the right part of the canvas in front of you, exactly the one in which the lock will be inserted. The place for the lock handle is located on the upper surface of the interior door.
When the door is properly installed, you can start to embed the lock. The door lock is turned so that the lock bar fits snugly enough to the edge of the door leaf. The place where the lock bar will be installed should be outlined with a pencil or marker. This action is necessary in order to create a groove for the bar. The groove is necessary to ensure that the lock bar enters the door as tightly as possible. Then it will not rub against the frame of the interior door, which will protrude a couple of millimeters.
In order to make a normal groove for the plank, a manual milling machine is passed over the outlined place. Then the chisel should process the corners of the groove, while helping with a hammer.
After the groove is made, it is necessary to make sure that the key bar enters the groove. If everything fits perfectly, then the next step is to lean the side of the lock against the slot and also make an outline of the part that will be cut out for the lock. At this stage of the work, you need to be careful and perform everything accurately. In the worst case, the lock will loosen over time, and this will lead to the fact that you will need to make additional holes for the lock, insert pieces of wood between the lock and the door leaf.
Installing interior door locks with your own hands
The next step is to drill a hole for the lock. To do this, take a drill that fits the width of the lock and insert it into the drill. Next, a hole is drilled under the lock according to pre-made marks in the groove.
As soon as the hole is ready, you can install the lock itself. If the first time the lock will not enter the hole or tight, then with the help of a drill, you should modify the part of the interior door that prevents the lock from entering correctly. Then you need to insert the lock again. This time it should fit easily and completely into the hole, and the bar should fit snugly into the groove. It must be well remembered that you can not force the lock into the hole, otherwise all the work will go down the drain.
After installing the lock, determine the location for the door handle. To do this, the lock is removed and placed over the hole. Thus, the location of the hole on the door leaf is located. Next, the distance from the place where the door handle will be attached to the key bar is measured. And, as always, the resulting distance is immediately outlined with a pencil or marker.
Again, the entrance is a drill. You need to make a hole for the handle, the drill must be selected according to the diameter. Then we re-install the lock in place, and install the handle in the side part. In this way, the match of all the holes is checked.
If everything coincides and stands correctly, without distortions, does not wobble and does not strive to fall out – the lock can be fixed. To do this, you need to fix the lock bar with two screws. At the same time, door handles are installed in the sidewall, and they are also attached with screws.
And, finally, the last stage of installing the door lock is to create the groove necessary for the lock latches, into which the latches will easily enter. To make a groove, you can use a drill or chisel. Secure the metal window with long and strong screws, because it includes key rods. At the same time, the rods should fit snugly to the metal window, because this affects how tightly the door will close.
Here, in the above-mentioned way, locks are installed on the interior doors. Of course, this does not guarantee complete security, but for privacy-just right.
